This includes a written health history along with tongue and pulse assessment. Before treatment, it is best to avoid heavy meals and excess caffeine, and alcohol or marijuana should not be used. Once your treatment plan is determined, you will lie on the treatment table while fine acupuncture needles are gently inserted and left in place for 20–30 minutes. After your session, you are encouraged to rest and allow the treatment to settle into the body. Depending on the severity of your condition, treatments are often recommended once or twice per week until the issue improves. Acupuncture carries very low risk. Mild bruises may occur, though not always present.
